On October 1, 1993, the DOT HM-181 Performance-Oriented Packaging Standards became mandatory for the Hazard Communication Standards. The standards require the use of the DOT 4 x 4 Hazard Class Labels, which identify hazardous materials and waste in the 172.101 Hazardous Materials Table. Since September 30, 1993 has come and gone, all hazardous materials and waste packaging must bear the new marking and labeling information.
